NUESA 2018 ELECTORAL COMMITTEE
FOUR MEMBERS DISAGREE WITH ELECTORAL TIMETABLE*

This is to bring to the notice of the general public the ill-timed electoral timetable for the NUESA 2018 elections. At the meeting of the electoral committee on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, four members of the committee representing EEE, MEE, IPE and MME departments which signified *MAJORITY* of the members present and eligible to vote presented valid and reasonable points why the 2018 NUESA election cannot hold this semester, top of which is the cumbersome, tensed and rigorous academic atmosphere arising from tests, assignments, other course works and preparations for examination by both aspirants and electorates.

However, the Chairman of the committee, *Hon. Timi Ogunbanke* (AGE department) unanimously ruled that the election will proceed as planned for unknown and unjustifiable reasons. The members are hoping this undisclosed reason does not include the desire to do the bidding of any person/persons as regards the outcome of the election.

The reasons presented by the aggrieved members includes:

1. The public holiday of Tuesday, May 1, 2018, the same day the manifesto has been scheduled to hold.
2. The planned disenfranchisement of the students of MME department who will be going for a field trip on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, the same day the election has been scheduled to hold.
3. Tensed academic atmosphere due to students last minute preparations to finalize course works (test, practicals, assignments etc.) for the semester and semester examinations.
4. Unnecessary and undue pressure on aspirants to purchase nomination forms and undergo screening exercises in about 48 - 72 hours.
5. The obvious inability of candidates to embark on adequate electioneering campaigns  since students are already through with lectures and are now rarely seen in lecture halls.
6. The schedule of the election during a lecture-free week, a pointer to the fact that the election will record poor turnout from students.


The aggrieved members uses this opportunity to call on stakeholders in NUESA and people of goodwill to prevail on the Chairman of the electoral committee, Hon. Timi Ogunbanke to reconsider his decision, follow the path of morality, all inclusive decision making and put himself and the 2018 electoral committee in the good books of history.

The aggrieved electoral representatives from the four departments will have no option than to withdraw their candidates and electorates from the electoral process if any of these salient points is ignored. We believe this is not the right time to have a divided NUESA!
