Two months after NASU started its indefinite strike, the union has tried to disturb academic activities so many times.

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities are currently making their impacts felt in some Federal Universities.
By now, students who do not know the importance of this non-teaching union in higher institutions would have known that without them no academic activities can be smoothly run in any institution.

It can be said that some Nigerian institutions are in crisis now due to the industrial action of the union members protesting for their rights.
This crisis started shortly after the Academic Staff Union of the University called off it's 2017 indefinite strike.
On Tuesday, December 4 2017, the Joint Action Committee, JAC comprising of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU and National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT directed its members in all universities across the country to resume their suspended strike.

Till today, this strike continues as the government has not responded to the demands of the union.
However, this perceived neglect from the Federal Government has prompted the union members to express their plights in their institutions by taking actions that tend to disrupt academic activities.
These are the five instance when the union has made efforts to cause a disturbance in some universities this year.

For some days, the students of the University of Lagos experienced the dark side of the lingering NASU strike in their hostels.
Students in different halls of residence in the university reportedly slept in darkness when the union renewed their agitation on Monday, February 5, 2018.
The union also shut some classrooms to register their grievances.

There was nothing the management could do about the blackout because the NASU members in the university have down-tooled.
In fact, the Dean of Students Affairs of the university reportedly urged the students to ‘adjust and read their books anyhow'.

The union members who are still on strike believe the university is forcing them to work by holding the matriculation ceremony when actually they are on strike.
The university management probably called the bluff of the union and held the event but the union won't stop to protest as they have declared the matriculation illegal.

Shortly after the union started their industrial action nationwide, the union members in Ibadan declared war on any lecturers found in lecture rooms teaching students.

The University workers disrupted ongoing academic activities in the University, chased lecturers out of their classes and rained abuse on them.
5. UNILAG postpones 2017 Convocation

Finally, the University of Lagos had to postpone its 2017 Convocation because of ongoing strike of the non-teaching staff of the university.

Earlier, the union had warned the school management to postpone the ceremony the 50th convocation ceremonies scheduled to commence on February 19.
The union according to reports have also shut some administrative buildings on the university campus.
The effects of the union strike is bitting hard on Federal Universities more than ever.
Meanwhile the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe had appealed to the students to bear with the management on the situation, saying the union members are only fighting for their rights.
