when proper education is still a struggle, but people are still fighting over religion.

Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, has now been shut down over religious tension.

It's 2017, when only one Nigerian university made it to the Top 1000 Global list, but students are still fighting over religion.

The Muslim Students are accusing the former Vice Chancellor, James Ayatse, of favouring Christians in filling academic and non-academic vacancies in school.

This brewing tension, is as we now understand, what led to the closing of the University by the school management.

According to reports, the crisis reached a boiling point on Friday when Muslim students at the University rallied to protest against Christian employees at the University.

A security guard, Andrew Moses, spoke to Sahara Reporters, saying:

“We saw strange faces stationed at Academic Department housing the university management staff, including the Vice Chancellor. When we inquired about their mission, they simply said, ‘We are here for jihad against Christians in the university.’”

But according to another lecturer who spoke to the press only on the condition of anonymity, said the crisis didn't begin on Friday the 2nd of June.

According to the lecturer, the drama began when Muslim students accused the former Vice Chancellor, James Ayatse, of favouring Christians over Muslims for employment positions.

This escalated to a court order, which led to the reinstatement of Haruna Kaita in 2016. Next, the interim chairman of the Academic Staff Union of the Universities (ASUU), Samuel Zumve, rallied Christian students who “prepared to defend their Christians fellows in the university”.

To prevent the breakdown of law and order, Police officers have now been deployed around campus.

The University Senate, under the chairmanship of  Bichi, has ordered immediate closure of the university until normalcy returns.
