At least one person has been killed in a suspected Boko Haram suicide bombing attack on the University of Maiduguri in Borno state.

The attack was carried out by female bombers on Sunday.

Three persons were also reported to have been wounded in the attack.

Danjuma Gambo, spokesman of the university, said the first bomber targeted security operatives while the second one was shot before she could carry out her attack.

He said the three people who sustained various degrees of wounds had been taken to hospital.

“The first female bomber targeted the security operatives when she detonated the bomb strapped on her body,” Gambo said.

“One of the security agents died on the spot and three others were rushed to the hospital with various degrees of injuries. The second bomber entered through the eastern end of the institution but was sighted by the security agents and was shot.”

He expressed worry that a large expanse of the university’s land was still unfenced which according to him, made it easy for the insurgents to attack.
