University of Ibadan (UI) students' protest
Power corrupts but absolute power corrupts absolutely. Ever heard that before and wonder what it means? Welcome to the University of Ibadan where authorities have transformed into principalities.
The school has been in chaos since the student congress called by the Ojo Aderemi-led administration where important issues were discussed.

Issues like the failure of the management to issue identification cards to students, victimization of students by porters in halls of residence, the use of hot plates in the hostels, the availability of light and water on campus, the opening hours of the Kenneth Dike Library and other pressing issues were discussed by those in attendance.

At the end of the congress, students decided that "No id cards, no exam" and set  29th of May for their declaration protest.

On Sunday, May 28th, the Senate called Ojo Aderemi and Asiwaju The Speaker into a closed door meeting where they tried to talk them out of the fixed protest.

Students gathered in front of the Senate building immediately they heard about it and shouts of "no bobo", "o J o" filled the air till the meeting ended and Aderemi came out to address the students.

He assured them that the protest would still go ahead, before adding that Vice Chancellor Idowu Olayinka, or his deputy would address the students before they take to the streets the next day.

May 29th hit Ibadan like another plain Democracy day but with spice to University of Ibadan students that had gathered by 8am at the Students Union Building foyer to await the address that never came.

While they waited, news of the Commissioner of Police threatening to deal with any student that takes to the road started going round.

Allegedly, in his words, he's reported to have said "I would waste your lives, if you dare me and come to the road I would deal with you."

He said this when Aderemi called him to confirm his stand with the students.

Reports of police officials and armoured tanks placed at the gate and strategic routes that lead into the school reached the students but they weren't scared to fight for what was right as they headed to the gate to commence the protest.

While the protest was going on, news reached the students that  EFCC had arrested the Deputy Vice Chancellor for embezzlement of funds which is still unconfirmed at the moment.

The VC headed to Diamond FM, the school's official radio station and declared the suspension of first semester exams till 17th of July, 2017, ordering students out of halls of residence before 6pm when the school would be shut down.

This decision met the members of the Senate in shock and they arranged to meet the VC by 12pm on Wednesday, May 30.

The school still hasn't released an official report but everyone is awaiting it.
